Asmara, Eritrea
I’m a first-generation Eritrean-American who was born and raised in Houston, a city where cultures converge, teaching me early on that people carry multiple identities at once. My name, Fenan (ፍናን), translates to 'morale,' 'high spirit,' or 'pride.' That meaning has become a guiding principle in my life and work: bringing energy, resilience, and hope into the spaces I enter.
In my clinical practice, I view culture not as separate from treatment, but as intrinsic to who we are. My training taught me that a patient's background shapes how they understand pain and healing. I approach every encounter with warmth and cultural humility, striving to meet patients where they are. By listening closely to their lived experiences, I aim to make them feel seen, making sure that the care I provide is not just clinically accurate, but deeply personal
